Frequently Asked Questions on RTPCR Test for COVID-19

As per ICMR approved test strategy as on 20th Mar'20

  • All asymptomatic individuals who have undertaken international travel in the last 14 days
  • They should stay in home quarantine for 14 days
  • They should be tested only if they become symptomatic (fever, cough, difficulty in breathing)
  • All family members living with a confirmed case should be home quarantined
  • All symptomatic contacts of laboratory confirmed cases.
  • Asymptomatic direct and high-risk contacts of a confirmed case should be tested once between day 5 and day 14 of coming in his/her contact.
  • All symptomatic healthcare workers.
  • All hospitalized patients with Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (fever AND cough and/or shortness of breath).
  • Direct and high-risk contact include those who live in the same household with a confirmed case and healthcare workers who examined a confirmed case without adequate protection as per WHO recommendations

You will need:

  • Govt approved photo ID (Aadhar Card, DL, Voter ID, Passport) to support the current address and contact number of the suspected patient.
  • Doctor's prescription with the test subscribed
  • ICMR Specimen Referral Form for 2019-Covid19 (SARS-CoV2), duly signed and Stamped by doctor.

Upon reaching any of Max Hospitals, you will be directed to the Flu Clinic or Cough & Cold Clinic stationed outside the hospital building. The doctors at the clinic will evaluate your symptoms. If they deem it necessary they will prescribe the test immediately. Our doctors will also provide the ICMR Specimen Referral Form which is duly signed and Stamped by them.

You can give your samples at our below mentioned hospitals which are authorized by Govt for COVID19 sample collection:

  • Max Hospital, Gurgaon, Haryana

In case you come to any of the Max Hospitals you will still be evaluated at the Cough & Cold Clinic. Our doctor will also fill the ICMR Specimen Referral Form which is a mandatory requirement of getting the test done.

The testing will be done at Max Lab, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket. It is one of selected labs by ICMR in Delhi NCT for COVID 19 testing. It is an NABL Accredited Lab and also authorized by Govt for H1N1 Testing.

As of now, RTPCR is the recommended method. The Nasopharyngeal and Oropharyngeal swab will be collected by taking due precaution.

The sample will be collected in a viral transport medium (VTM) to maintain the stability of the sample. This will further get transported in a cold chain.

You will be notified through an SMS on your registered mobile number, with a link from where you can download your report. Additionally we will also mail you your reports on the registered Email id. You can also download the report from the report section on www.maxlab.co.in. We will share reports for all patients with DSO (District Surveillance Officer) and ICMR as per the guidelines of Government of India/ICMR.

You are advised to visit your referring doctor with the report for the final interpretation.
