Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

The bile acid test is used to diagnose various diseases, including:

-Cirrhosis: This is a condition in which the liver is damaged and cannot function properly. Bile acids build up in the blood, causing jaundice (yellowing of the skin) and other symptoms.

-Cholestasis: This is a condition in which the flow of bile is blocked. Bile acids build up in the blood, causing jaundice and other symptoms.

The normal range for bile acid tests is 2 to 4 mg/dL. Bile acids are produced in the liver and stored in the gallbladder.

If you have a bile acid test, you will be asked to fast for 8 hours before the test. You will also be asked to not take any medications that can affect the results of the test, such as antacids or cholesterol-lowering drugs.

During the test, a small sample of blood will be taken from a vein in your arm. The blood will be sent to a lab for analysis.
