When the heart muscle is damaged, Troponin is released into the blood. If the level of Troponin T is higher than the normal range, it indicates an underlying cardiac injury. A Troponin T Test is prescribed to see if a heart attack has occurred. A health professional may recommend this test if a person exhibits symptoms of a heart attack, such as chest pain, arm pain, discomfort, or shortness of breath. Usually, this test is conducted two or more times within a time frame of 6–24 hours. If a person has a normal Troponin level 12 hours after chest pain, it indicates a lower likelihood of having suffered a heart attack.
