Maintaining a normal blood sugar level is essential for individuals in all age groups to avoid health problems in the long run. While there are various types of diabetes found in human beings, the common goal for managing any of them is to have insulin sensitivity. While people with low blood sugar have symptoms like sweating, dizziness, and anxiety, individuals with high blood sugar levels can experience frequent urination, increased thirst, and fatigue. Here is a list of food items recommended to control blood sugar levels:

    • Broccoli

The number one food item for controlling sugar, specifically type 2 diabetes, is broccoli. It is easily available in many parts of the country, so people who are at a higher risk of having diabetes or have been diagnosed with it can consume sulforaphane-rich broccoli on a regular basis.

    • Eggs

It is important to maintain a normal level of blood sugar in the body because a higher amount of glucose can lead to cardiovascular issues. Eggs are known to be very nutritious due to the concentrated protein present in them. They are among the best food items for controlling diabetes because they can improve insulin sensitivity. Consuming one egg a day is highly recommended for individuals who wish to manage their blood sugar levels properly.

    • Seafood

Another great source of protein is seafood which includes fish and shellfish. It is recommended to consume seafood dishes as they help in controlling blood sugar spiking after a meal. People who eat seafood are often observed to have normal levels in a random blood sugar or RBS test

    • Pumpkin

Did you know that pumpkin extract and powder have been used in countries like Mexico and Iran to control blood sugar? Although there is no clarity on whether blood sugar levels can be controlled after eating a pumpkin in a roasted or steamed form.

    • Carrots

Another food item that can help in reducing blood sugar levels in a (random sugar test) RBS test or (fasting sugar test) FBS test is carrot. This vegetable is perfect for controlling diabetes as it contains beta-carotene that can reduce blood sugar levels naturally. People who worry about how to lower their sugar immediately should consume carrots regularly so that it can be done in a gradual manner.

    • Beans

Rich in fibre, magnesium, and protein, beans are great for people who have high blood sugar symptoms such as frequent urination, increased thirst, fatigue, nausea, etc. There have been several studies that show lower postprandial blood sugar levels, i.e., after consuming a meal in people who eat beans on a regular basis.

    • Barley

Barley is known for having high fibre content that works best for reducing blood sugar in an individual. It is for this reason that barley is on the food list for those who wish to lower their blood sugar levels with a healthy diet.

    • Nuts

There are different types of diabetes in human beings, so eating the right kind of food items is important for maintaining blood sugar levels. Individuals who consistently have high blood sugar levels in their diabetic profile test should consume nuts like peanuts, almonds, walnuts, etc. to regular their diabetes.

    • Okra

A lot of people misconstrue okra as a vegetable when it is actually a fruit. It is rich in polysaccharides and flavonoid antioxidants that help in lowering blood sugar. Symptoms like increased thirst and urination, fatigue, tingling feeling in the hands and feet, etc., can be reduced by eating okra (also known as ladyfinger in India).

    • Flax Seeds

Healthy fats and fibre are essential for controlling blood sugar. They are found in a food item called flax seeds. There are studies that have shown a significant reduction in HbA1c, a type of diabetes blood test, among individuals who consumed flax seeds.

    • Chia Seeds

Chia seeds have gained a lot of popularity nowadays because of the high amounts of fibre in them. Hence, people who wonder about what level of blood sugar is dangerous in the long run should consume chia seeds with water or milk daily.

    • Lentils

Lentils have been consumed for centuries because they provide enough water-soluble fibre and resistant starch that slows down digestion. This leads to a better response of the blood sugar after meals. As a result, controlling blood sugar levels with daily consumption of lentils is possible.

    • Kimchi

Kimchi is a cabbage-based fermented food item that is not in delicious but also very healthy. This is mainly due to the presence of probiotics, minerals, and antioxidants that help in lowering blood sugar levels. Individuals who are prescribed regular diabetes tests to keep a check on their insulin should include kimchi in their diet.

    • Kale

This leafy vegetable is known as a “superfood” because it has fibre and flavonoid antioxidants in high amounts. Ideal for people who have type 2 diabetes, kale can do wonders for insulin sensitivity.

    • Avocado

One of the most delicious stone fruits in the world, avocados, is highly recommended for people with high blood sugar levels. This fruit has healthy fats, fibre, vitamins, and minerals that can reduce the risk of a metabolic syndrome caused by increased blood sugar.

Maintaining a normal level of blood sugar is not difficult. The key is to consume a healthy diet with nutritious foods and have an active lifestyle.
