Overview of the TTP (ADAMTS13) gene analysis (MG) Test Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is a form of thrombotic microangiopathy marked by the spontaneous development of platelet-rich clots within small blood vessels. These microvascular platelet thrombi result in mechanical hemolytic anaemia, low platelet count (thrombocytopenia), and ischemia affecting multiple organs. TTP is an uncommon but potentially fatal disorder if not promptly managed with appropriate therapy, such as plasmapheresis. The condition generally begins in adulthood, known as Moschcowitz syndrome, and is rarely seen in childhood, where it is referred to as Upshaw-Schulman syndrome. TTP can occur sporadically or recur with multiple, unpredictable relapses.
