BCR-ABL quantitative, Real Time PCR के बारे में अक्सर पूछे जाने वाले प्रश्न

The BCR ABL test is a blood test that detects the presence of a genetic mutation known as the Philadelphia chromosome. This mutation causes chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), which is a type of cancer that affects your white blood cells.

The BCR ABL test is a critical diagnostic tool used to detect the presence of specific genetic abnormalities in individuals who may be at risk for certain types of cancer, including chronic myeloid leukemia and acute lymphoblastic leukemia. This test can help doctors determine if patients are candidates for targeted drug therapies that can effectively manage their condition.

There are different methods used to perform the BCR ABL test, including PCR (polymerase chain reaction) and FISH (fluorescence in situ hybridization). Both techniques amplify specific DNA sequences within cells to detect any abnormalities.

Determining who should get a BCR ABL test can be crucial in diagnosing certain types of leukemia. Typically, this test is recommended for people who have been experiencing symptoms that may indicate leukemia, such as unexplained weight loss, fatigue, fever and night sweats.

One of the most common is unexplained fatigue or weakness, which can be caused by anemia resulting from leukemia cells crowding out healthy blood cells. Another symptom is unexplained weight loss.

One thing you should keep in mind is that some medications can affect the accuracy of the results. Therefore, it is essential to inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking or if there have been any changes in your medication regimen recently.

However, this is a relatively safe and non-invasive procedure that carries very few risks.

During the test, a small sample of blood will be drawn from your arm. Some people may experience minor discomfort or bruising at the site where the needle was inserted, but these symptoms are usually mild and resolve quickly on their own.

The normal range for the BCR-ABL test varies depending on the laboratory where it is performed, but generally, a normal result falls within 0% - 1%.
